Dear Mr. Stroh:
On behalf of the Board of Directors,
please accept my sincere thanks and appreciation for this thoughtful donation to
the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society from the Shipmates of the USS Dennis J.
Buckley DD/DDR 808. This contribution will be used in its entirety to provide
relief services and programs for the tens of thousands of active duty and
retired Sailors and Marines, and their families, who seek our assistance each
year. During 2003, the Society disbursed $34.1 million in interest-free loans
and grants in nearly 44,500 financial relief cases.
Your donation this year is
particularly memorable as the Society begins its year-long Centennial
celebration. In its first century of service, the Society has provided more than
$1 billion interest-free loans and grants to nearly 4 million clients. Our roots
go back to the 1903 Army-Navy football game when President Theodore Roosevelt
committed one-third of the gate receipts of that game ($9,000.00) to the Navy
for the express purpose of establishing the Navy Relief Society.
For Internal Revenue Service
documentation purposes, this was a 655.00 cash contribution, dated October 29,
2004 and no goods or services were exchanged for the donation.
Thank you again for your generosity
and please convey our sincere appreciation to the crew of the USS Dennis J.
Buckley DD/DDR 808 who helped to make this donation possible.
Sincerely yours.
Charles S. Abbot
Admiral, U.S. Navy (Ret.)
